Joy B. Ripoll collection, 1830-1868.

This collection contains five deeds arranged in chronological order. The first deed is from Decatur County between Robert I. Smallwood/John W. Evans and Samuel E. Gardner, dated 4 July 1857. The second deed is from Troup County between Obed Perry and Aaron Brooks, dated 26 August 1859. The next deed is from Decatur County between Charles Garner and William Marshall and is dated 29 November 1861. The fourth deed is also from Decatur County and is between William M. Marshall and James B. Griffin, dated 6 November 1868. The last deed is from Thomas County, between Mathew M. McAlilly and James B. Griffin, dated 1868. (Cont.) There are also two grants with surveys and seals. One is a grant to James Bryant for former Creek and Cherokee land in Irwin County, dated 30 November 1830. The other grant is to Obed Perry for former Cherokee land in Baldwin County, dated 26 February 1839.

James Griffin was a blacksmith in Alfred, York County, ME during the early 1800s. Apparently working in cooperation with a relative, Ivory Griffin (see page 162) the two are listed in the Maine Register and Business Directory for the year 1856.
